Analyst Designation Attracts Students

Financial advisers, and even regulators, are going back to school to learn the A-to-Z of alternative investments spurred by the growing popularity of hedge funds with wealthy investors.
There's not a whole load of choice out there when it comes to education in the sector and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association is grabbing the growing number of hungry students around the globe.
Some 1,171 candidates in 50 countries took exams in February for the association's professional "CAIA" designation (pronounced "KAI-yah"), up more than 40% on the last exam session in July. The association expects 1,800 to register for this fall's exams, boosted by the adoption of the program by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and growing recognition of the designation in Europe and Asia where there has been a significant up-tick in enrollments.
Craig Asche, executive director of the CAIA Association says most academic programs at universities and company training schemes are still geared towards stocks and bonds, creating a supply demand mismatch in a nascent, but rapidly growing industry.
"If you are a young person looking to get into this field, then there is no other way to get educated than through this program," he says.
William Gruzynski is a portfolio manager and director at Emerald Strategies LLC, a Chicago-based alternative investment firm focusing on hedge funds, managed futures solutions and foreign-exchange strategies for wealthy individuals and institutions, such as foundations and endowments. He graduated from the CAIA program last year. Mr. Gruzynski, who has over 30 years of industry experience, says the program helped him learn in more detail about real estate and private equity. Although he isn't directly involved in these types of strategies, his new knowledge has helped him articulate the pros and cons to clients when questions about they come up.
"Clients tend to look only at returns and not take into account how they are generated and the risks that are involved," Mr. Gruzynski says.

不看好CAIA，因為，最好的投資商品，是股票或直接投資房地產，債券只是賺取較通貨膨脹為高的利潤。而避險基金、PE、原物料，只有分散風險的效果，沒有創造利潤的目的。 |

我是要寫"不有名"啦...(請看完我整段話就知道了)..打太快了..所以
AI:在考試裡的範圍包括像是hedge fund, commodities and managed futures, real estates, private equity, credit derivatives, etc 還滿廣的...只是在台灣看來是各自獨立成為專門...並沒有將其視為一個概括性的說法
有不有用..要等你需要用到的時候才知道...多讀點書總是沒錯的 |

我會知道這個證照是因為有一次去聽說明會, 有個美林的基金經理人在他的名字後面加了CAIA...他正是來介紹一些另類投資工具的
後來研究了一下, 才逐漸了解這個證照..在台灣不有用...好像只有個位數的人士有此執照..在美,英及新加坡比較有名
後來我就去參加了L1的考試..想說這也是跟目前工作有一些些的相關, 也為自己未來多一些加分的工具
L1不算太難,考的東西一半是傳統投資,一半是另類投資,以難度而言,大約比CFA的L1稍簡單一些
今年9月會去考L2,因為有ESSAY部分, 作答方式很像是我考GMAT的方式,都是電腦應答,內容難度應該也會提高吧...
我正要開始準備...加油囉!! |

我們提出更正，也謝謝你的用心。股票債券等仍然在其考慮的範圍內，所用的教科書是bodie那一本。我們在想2007年9月那一次的考試，可能才不考吧!我們之前會這樣認為，是看到CAIA協會自已的說法，但顯然協會後來在公佈2007年3月考綱時，仍然將傳統投資放了進去，也OK啦!因為BODIE那本教科書寫的算是比較嚴謹。
考過的您，也希望能來本公司指導其他學員，一起參加CAIA的考試。 |

不過這個證照太貴，IPO價格太貴，是會讓人卻步的。請問有沒有衍生性商品的全球公認證照? |

被你們金證照IPO的證照，有那個到最後會沒有人聽過。不過，就CISDM針對美國退休基金、大學捐贈基金所做的調查，約有20%的資產會放在AI，因此，如果台灣CAIA有400人，應該要有80個CAIA，不過因為CFA中也有考AI，所以，PURE CAIA的需求數應該要有70人才對。目前好像只有2人有CAIA，市場很大。不過補習市場很小，難怪金證照只提供訊息，不提供補習。 |

CFA的program往年對AI不太重視，但2007年L3的AI，看的比以往更重視，不僅把去年零散的教課書全部換掉，改成一本明年會出版的新書(先取它部分的章節成為READINGS，CFAI喜歡用這種策略來測試反應度)，並且在深度上加強了原物料的衍生性商品。所以，未來CFA可能會在AI上和CAIA競爭呢! |

愈是國際性的證照, 考慮的是國際性的需求, 及與國際接軌的需要. 大家不一定一輩子都在台灣工作, 避險基金也不一定都不好. 用一些國際性的視野, 職場與投資的天空會更寬闊.
雖然台灣還沒開放避險基金, 不代表避險基金在國際上違法; 也不會減低這些產品在國際上的重要性. CAIA, 也不會因為避險基金在台灣不能引進, 就不值得去取得.
各位可以觀察SCHWESER要去為CAIA出STUDY NOTE就知道其趨勢性.
就我所知, 台灣應該有十幾家國外避險基金公司在台灣市場進行投資並雇用人員. 這行為並非違法. |

避險基金在台灣仍屬非法的商品，但結構式商品中有許多和指數比大小的遊戲，其所比的指數就是避險基金的指數。
避險基金其實是賺絕對報酬，只是它多了很多的融資及衍生性商品的交易。任何人都可以用智慧來創造避險基金，前一陣子流行的私募基金的投資策略，如果有做雙邊(如放空個股，做多破產債權或可轉債)，也可以是一種沒有融資的避險基金。 |

以後會愈來愈重要吧, 早考不見得不好, 現在通過這個考試大家對你都"肅然起敬". 這是我知道業界對這張證照的感覺.避險基金業對這張證照更加重視. 加分效果佳.
不過考試費用真的頗貴, 我在考完CFA, CFP, FRM之後, 對這張真是無力, 應該不會去考的.
SCHEWEER有出CAIA 的STUDY NOTE. 不過內容我沒看過.
至於我那個同事我想應該不會露面交流吧. 他說這純屬個人知識的增進, 與鼓勵大家去考無關.
這種精神更讓我肅然起敬..... |

金證照不要亂說啦, 說台灣沒有人通過CAIA考試. 敝人的公司就有一位CAIA 的證照擁有人, 還是該考試的第一, 二屆就通過了.以後要發表這種言論還是先查證較好.
這項考試還是對避險基金最有用, 當然私募股權基金與創投也對有這項證照的人也會有加分.
加分與多少年薪並無等號. |

有沒有人對這個領域有興趣，考上後並想教書的，可以和金證照聯絡，他們公司這幾年拉拔了很多新科的CFA、FRM當講師，有幾個表現的相當不錯，比學校的老師好很多，因為他們多在業界工作，而且教的科目限於他們懂的科目。不過還是有一、二個新科FRM不怎麼會教書，又一副很跩的樣子…
CSIA，我是有興趣考啦，但覺得考試費用好貴，不知道如果能當金證照講師，貴公司會不會補助我一些考試報名費。 |

2007年的CAIA三月考試，考綱最快10月3日在網站上公佈。請上CAIA協會了解，www.caia.org。考試費用不便宜，第一級要1300元，第二級要900元，考過後每年還要被吸走250元，但目前台灣沒有人考過，考過者將會火紅。
考試內容包羅萬象，不虧是AI。主要還是以其它投資策略為主，避險基金和管理期貨為主軸。另外，房地產投資、創投、未上市投資，原物料投資也是重點之所在。
分成二級考試，考完第一級可以考第二級，考試時間集中在3月和9月，台北有考場。第一級考200題選擇題，第二級考90題單選題，外加三題申論題，申論題佔30%權重。
由於這個證照從2003年才開始，因此每一年你會發現他的考綱變化很快。從2007年起，股票和債券已經不考了，因此投資的那本教科書(作者為bodie, Kane, Marcus)已經從書架上拿走，主要教科書為:Handbook of alternative investments。 |

CAIA is getting big in Europe and inching up in the States. In Asia, probably Singapore and Kore are leaders in terms of enrollment. Over time it will be as big as CFA since the alternative investments become more main stream.
The translation for alternative investments is pretty standard - "Ling Lui Tao Geee" (pronounced Cantonese way).
